Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic vintage Mid Century Modern Walnut armchair. We purchased this alongside another chair from the same maker and originally thought they were Baumritter chairs. Baumritter was a predecessor to Ethan Allen, and their Mid-Century Modern furniture is quite collectible. The gait of the chair, the webbing for the seat, and the overall design are consistent with other Baumritter chairs that we’ve handled in the past but there are noticeable differences.

One unique feature of this chair that we’d like to point out is the uncommon oval shape of the horizontal elements of the chair. On most MCM chairs that we encounter it’s either a round dowel or a flat board used for the crest, whereas this is almost an amalgam of the two. The shape of the arms is also different from most Baumritter chairs that we’ve seen. The arms also have a chamfered edge on the inside of the arms and these unique features in our opinion make this chair superior to any Baumritter we’ve seen. We’re more leaning toward this being from a Danish company. All of the big names in modern like Poul Jensen, Finn Juhl, Paul Mccobb, George Nakashima, Hans Wegner etc. all had their own versions of lounge chairs or easy chairs. If anybody has any more information on a possible maker we’d love to hear it. The chair is in wonderful condition with our only notes being minor surface wear, some light finish loss on the arms, & two small rips in the solid orange side of the larger bottom cushion. The striped side doesn’t have any rips in it. The chair measures 29 1/2” wide x 33 1/2” deep x 28” tall with a 16” seat height.
