Vintage Federal Style Tiger Maple Full Size Four Poster Bed
Vintage Federal Style Tiger Maple Full Size Four Poster Bed
Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful mid 20th century Federal Antique style high post bed. The bed showcases beautiful cuts of Tiger Maple with the grain orientated horizontally on the posts, and vertically on the cross members. The bed has a traditional slender headboard with circular cut outs on the side and a cupids bow scrolling pattern at the top. The headboard was made from an even rarer grade of maple, and is referred to as Quilted Maple. Quilted maple is most commonly used for instrument making and is cherished for its distinct grain pattern that looks like ripples on water, or as if the grain is folding into itself. The posts are square where they meet the rails with a chamfered edge above and below. The legs and posts are finely turned with tight ringlet carvings and a wonderful bellflower where the posts meet the top of the headboard. The posts taper towards the top and terminate with Tiger Maple urn finials. We love the slender proportions of the bed, and this would work very well in an older home with smaller rooms where a more standard size tall post bed would overwhelm the space. The bed is fitted with cast iron bed rail hooks that slide into a receiver plate on the headboard and footboard posts. The bed is easy to assemble without any tools required and is solid as a rock.
The interior of the bed measures 53 1/2” wide when accounting for the space of the metal fasteners x 75” long. Full size box springs come in varying sizes between 53-54 inches so whether you’re planning on using an existing one or purchasing a new one, please ensure it’s either 53” or 53 1/2” wide. The overall dimensions of the bed are 56 3/4” wide x 81 1/4” deep x 86” tall.
