Vintage Federal Style Tiger Maple Dropleaf Dining Table With Rare Single Drawer
Vintage Federal Style Tiger Maple Dropleaf Dining Table With Rare Single Drawer
With our highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques has the pleasure of offering this wonderful dropleaf dining table. This table is an exceptional example of the traditional early American federal style and is constructed from the highest grade of boldly figured tiger maple. We had the great fortune of purchasing this dining table with a larger companion dining table which were both made as wedding presents for the former owners. After forty years the family decided to downsize and we are still ecstatic that we were able to purchase both tables. The table we now offer was built by the former owner's father who was a master furniture maker with a strong command of the American Federal design. Quite literally this table was a labor of his love for his daughter and her husband who both cherished the table these past few generations. He selected a premium grade of solid curly tiger maple not commonly found in furniture production anymore. The only companies that produced anything comparable at the time are firms such as Eldred Wheeler which commands a king's ransom in the present antique furniture market. This table is of a finer quality and design compared to what was commercially produced around forty years ago. Only custom furniture makers could produce anything as fine as this table outside of the original antique form made centuries before. While premium tiger maple continues to appreciate in value and scarcity this table remains among the wisest investments available in the present furniture market. The table functions with two hinged dropleaves supported from underneath that when hinged upward expand the surface area considerably. A rare single drawer was built for the table and the drawer continues to function well. The table has four masterfully turned legs which slightly taper and terminate on finely formed ball feet. It is our absolute privilege to own this wonderful table and we look forward to finding a home for it where the table will continue to be cherished and cared for. When the leaves are down the table measures 18 7/8" wide x 37 7/8" deep x 29" tall. When the leaves are locked up the table measures 47 1/4" wide.
