Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic vintage Cherry four post rice carved bed. A traditional 18th century design, a rice carved bed is a highly sought after American staple. The earliest known examples were made in the Carolinas in the second half of the 18th century. The original gentleman to commission the design wanted the plants that gave him his immense wealth carved into the post. Rice and tobacco were the most prevalent cash crops in the area at the time. Commonly referred to as simply plantation beds this example stands on block collared feet with decorative brass bed bolt covers. The bed has pineapple carved finials and beautiful reeded posts with rice carvings & tobacco leaf carvings. The bed is tight and sturdy and is in wonderful condition with our only notes being minor surface wear and a repair to the top of one post that can be seen in our image showing the pineapple finials. The bed can be completely broken down into separate components which makes the bed easy to ship & move into your home. We don't have the sizes on hand but will amend the listing with them shortly.
