Bay Colony Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this wonderful miniature carved & painted woodcock decoy. The bird has wire legs & metal feet and is mounted on a small piece of driftwood. The decoy has brown & white plumage with good attention to detail on the rectrices. The decoy is signed Potter Bar Harbor Maine underneath the base and is in wonderful condition with our only notes being a small loss on the bill. The decoy bears a striking resemblance to Gilley’s woodcock, and we imagine Potter was either a student or contemporary of Gilley working in the same area. The woodcock measures 3 1/2” long from tail to bill x 1” deep at the body x 3 1/2” tall including the stand. The driftwood base measures 2 1/2” long x 2” deep.
