IMPORTANT DOUBLE BLANK DOOR 18TH CENTURY CHERRY CONNECTICUT SECRETARY DESK WITH HIDDEN SAFE

Bay Colony Antiques takes the most exceptional honor in offering you this stunning 18th Century American Chippendale period Hepplewhite styled double blank door Connecticut cherry Secretary Desk. This piece commands attention when you encounter it. This configuration of the Secretary's doors are ultra rare and announces its an important desk without question. This two piece case desk stands on flaring Ogee profiled French bracket feet and is topped by a stunningly handsome well proportioned crown. Each of its two piece case possesses the very best Colonial American dovetail joinery techniques with four graduated and thumb molded drawers in its base case. The cherry selected for this desk is some of the best anywhere grown in the United States coming from the famed fertile valley of the Connecticut River. It has fantastic figuring in its old growth cherry. The hand chamfered panels of it's doors are all pegged joined. The lid rests on robust loafers and is complete with baton ends & all its locks with keys. Its hinges are all original & correct with its lid. There has been any tear outs or unsightly restorations. We do not buy desks with lid issues! We note some seasoning splits on the base of the right side of the case & a tiny top section that had re-splices of cherry to professionally address the issues & it was rebrassed but with correct period brasses. The interior of this desk is both very interesting & further testament to the intensive work and thought that went into the construction of this desk. It has eight short drawers, valances and two full vertical drawers flanking the prospectors door concealing the slide out safe to conceal gold-silver coins & paper currency. All the drawers of the interior have a reticulated carvings on the facings. We had a 12 picture limit to this listing but we'd be delighted to send you additional back and base pictures if you desire. Its everything its supposed to be in a special piece of investment grade American period Furniture collecting. From the estate of a multi generational Lyme, Connecticut family it is 40" long, 18 1/2" wide and stands at a commending 88 1/4" tall. One of the best period Cherry Secretary Desks to come to market in many years now.
