With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this exceptional set of ten solid walnut dining chairs. Anytime we encounter sets of high-quality dining chairs in excess of six or eight we consider ourselves extremely fortunate as demand from collectors with large antique dining tables has made the reality of sourcing fine sets of chairs incredibly difficult. We are immensely proud to continually offer antique and high-quality custom furniture in the tradition of the finest historical design periods and we view the challenge of replacing rare and distinctive furniture forms as a supremely satisfying pursuit. With respect to our current offering, we feel that these chairs are among the finest available anywhere in the country and have been priced far below market value as sets of chairs with a similar distinction are generally expected to retail between $8,000 - $10,000. It is our hope to place these exquisite dining chairs in a deserving home as quickly and reasonably as can be expected because we are a large volume-based seller of traditional American furniture and would rather pass a considerable value on to our clients versus letting premium inventory stagnate in our warehousing facilities.

These chairs are of the highest possible quality having been constructed from a premium grade of walnut and crafted in the tradition of the early American Queen Anne style. The frames of each chair are curved and contoured for the highest level of comfort that can be expected from a traditional chair frame while also maintaining the distinctive appeal of chairs made in the early American period. Each chair features a yolk formed crest rail, trapezoidal formed seat frames, and continual splayed rear legs which span upwards throughout the frame. The upholstered seats are designed to drop in which makes the prospect of future reupholstering a far simpler endeavor. The most notable aspect each chair possesses is the sophisticated chair splats which are fashioned as a heart over a Grecian baluster urn. To the untrained eye that may appear to be the end of the ingenious design however please refer to the negative space between the frame of the chair and the left and right sides of every splat. The silhouette formed in this negative space takes on the shape of a penguin which has been a hallmark of the very finest chairmakers since the tradition began centuries ago in 18th century English furniture shops. Scholars of historical furniture consider this embellishment to be both whimsical and important with respect to the evolution of interior furniture as both an art form and a time-honored tradition. Furthering the sophistication of these dining chairs are the presence of shell carved motifs upon the knees of every cabriole chair leg. Gracefully padded feet and turned stretcher supports are a further indication of the quality each chair possesses as they not only add to the aesthetic appeal but provide an uncommonly high degree of strength and stability not usually found on traditional dining chairs. Every chair remains sturdy and in exceptional condition with only minimal repairs to several chairs being required throughout the past few decades. We respectfully maintain the position that these chairs are an incredible offering priced far below what we have come to expect quality dining chairs to cost and that they only require a collector with a fine eye for quality and a deserving home to safeguard them for future generations. The side chairs measures 22" wide x 22" deep x 38" tall. The armchairs measure 22 1/2" wide x 22" deep x 39 1/2" tall.
