VINTAGE SET OF 8 HENKEL HARRIS MAHOGANY DINING CHAIRS WITH CARVED BALL & CLAW FEET - CA 1986
Bay Colony Antiques is pleased to offer for sale this wonderful set of 8 Henkel Harris Mahogany dining chairs. Henkel Harris continues to produce some of the finest home furnishings with exquisite attention to detail of timeless antique designs. The partnership began in 1940's between the Henkel family and John Harris. The unlikely trio was rather inexperienced in cabinet making but spent countless hours studying antiques they coveted so highly. They paid particular mind to the way these timeless treasures were crafted and finished and sought out to recreate the quality of Americas golden age of cabinetry. The chairs were made in the Chippendale style with carved ball & claw feet, carved ears, & shell carvings on the crest. The set also has cut outs on the seat box and has a remained a full set with 6 side chairs and 2 armchairs.
Every chair is nice & tight, and the chairs are in fantastic condition. All but one armchair has additional padding over the original seats and a new tasteful fabric that’s free of any rips or damage. Our father was at the warehouse with us when we photographed these and sat on one for a few hours while my brother and I worked. He said the double padding is quite comfortable and he would leave them as is. We attached a picture peeking under the seats which shows they were originally white and probably had a few stains which is why they were covered. A few corners have become untucked which we will secure back down with either staples or fabric glue, whichever our restorer seems more appropriate. If you wanted to have the seats done over, they can easily be removed from the frame meaning you only have to transport 8 seats, not 8 chairs. The Henkel Harris brand shows these were made in 1986 by shop number 3. The side chairs measure 25” wide x 24” deep x 40” tall with a 20” seat height. The armchairs measure 28 1/2” wide x 24” deep x 40” tall with a 20” seat height for the double stuffed chair and an 18” seat height on the standard armchair. Most of our competitors have these priced between $500-$600 a chair where we have these at $400 a chair without a premium for the armchairs. Sets of chairs command a decent amount of our warehousing space so we are more apt to move them quickly and encourage any interested parties to submit an offer they’re comfortable with. Our main goal is and has always been to place nice objects in nice homes, not to hold out for every last dollar we believe something is worth.
