Bay Colony Antiques is pleased to offer for sale this wonderful set of 8 antique Arts & Crafts Oak dining chairs. We went through our collection of early Arts & Crafts furniture catalogs but couldn't find this set in any of our publications. We've handled similar sets from the Stickley family & Roycroft, but don't believe either made the chairs. We suspect they might be English because of the unusual stretchers and Art Nouveau influence of the design. Regardless of who made them they’re a fantastic set of early Arts & Crafts chairs CA 1900-1910. We absolutely love the tapered splats and the simplicity of the design. The chairs are nice and sturdy thanks to the base stretchers and a few of the chairs were neatly reinforced with metal L brackets. The seats need to be done over but since they’re slip seats they can just be lifted out of the frame and brought to an upholsterer without having to transport all of the chairs. We contemplated having the seats done over before offering the set for sale but us offering the chairs in their current state allows whoever purchases them the ability to choose their own fabric. The chairs exhibit near-ideal proportions & the entire design feels well balanced and well thought out. The chairs measure 17 1/2” wide x 17 1/2” deep x 35 1/2” tall with an 18 1/2” seat height.
