EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY SIGNED CLODION BRONZE OF INTOXICATED BACCHANTES MOUNTED ON RAM
With our compliments we are honored to offer you this outstanding 20" tall bronze statue of a scantily clad semi nude Bacchantes riding a long haired powerful Ram tipping her libation cup. This very finely executed antique bronze signed Claude Michel Clodion (1738-1814 Nancy & Paris) and foundry mark. The patina of the bronze possesses every quality we look for in an important bronze. We can not state definitively it is one of masterpieces antique bronze recasts of one of Clodion's terra cotta masterpieces. We viewed the Frick's collection earlier this summer and carefully studied their world class collection of Clodions. We saw many of his works but nothing of this exact subject matter leading us to the opinion it's correct or at the very least is an extremely rare desirable specimen. We give our clients all the information we possess to assist their investment decisions. This comes to us from an important New York collection of fine art and bronzes. It is in excellent condition and stands on a very well done white marble pedestal.
