Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful vintage Mahogany Demilune console table by Councill Craftsmen. Councill Craftsmen was founded in 1973 and continues to produce some of the finest home furnishings for sale. The table showcases superb cuts of Honduran Mahogany with a prominent crotch or “flame figuring” on each panel. Councill always put a big emphasis on selecting the best available lumber for their furniture and it really makes a difference in the end product. Their inlaid furniture with the bellflowers like this is among our favorite of their design lines. The satinwood contrasts the Mahogany nicely and there are also patterae inlays above the two front facing legs. The top & apron have a compound string inlay comprised of Ebony & Holly, and the legs have a holly string inlay that follows the taper of the legs down to the satinwood inlaid ankle cuffs. These make great hallway or sofa tables because they’re quite narrow and don’t intrude too much on the space. The table is in very good condition with our only notes being minor surface wear, the worst of which being a few scuffs in the top clear coat. Small surface scuffs like these are pretty commonplace with vintage Councill Craftsmen furniture because the high gloss finish is made up of multiple layers of polish. We’d still give this table a 9 out of 10 in terms of condition but always point out any flaws no matter how small or inconsequential they are to the overall condition of the piece. The table measures 54” wide x 15 3/4” deep x 32” tall.
