We're delighted to offer for sale this wonderful early 20th century mahogany Queen Anne style candle stand by Irving & Casson of Boston, MA. Irving and Casson began their partnership in 1874 advertising advanced cabinetry work in the earlier 18th and 19th century style. Their early work was mostly interior finishes in a high style and later toward case pieces. The duo was commissioned for numerous impressive jobs such as the Iolani palace in Hawaii and the US house and senate chamber in DC.
Irving and Casson continued to make furniture well into the third quarter of the 20th century. The metal tag with the Davenport alliance can help us date this piece to the early 1920's. Early catalogs and blue cards can be found online and have grown quite collectible in their own right. This table has a shaped and molded top of rich Caribbean Mahogany. The turned pedestal shows grace and intent with a true understanding of fine cabinetry. The table stands on a 3 footed spider leg base with the makers tag located under the pedestal. This stand is in wonderful condition and was clearly well cared for. We view Irving and Casson as the last true advanced Boston furniture shops. The table is 19" wide x 17" deep at the base. When the table top is locked down with the crab lock the table is 25 1/4" tall. When the top is flipped up the height is 35 3/4".
