CHIPPENDALE ANTIQUE STYLE KING SIZE MAHOGANY FOUR POST BED / PLANTATION BED WITH RICE AND TOBACCO LEAF CARVINGS
Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful 20th century Chippendale antique style king size Mahogany rice carved four post bed. Inspired by the classic 18th-century design, rice-carved beds are highly sought-after American staples, often referred to as plantation beds. This example stands on block-collared feet with brass bed bolt covers. The posts feature lamb’s tongue carvings, aiding the transition from square to round before reaching the urns with rice carvings. Above the urns, the posts taper inward before swelling outward again with tobacco leaf carvings above that lead into robust reeded sections. The upper part of the reeded posts where the ringlets are can be removed for easier transport and handling. Additionally, the urn finials are also independent components that can be detached.
The bed has a center rail & slats to accept either a standard king or a split king foundation. The rails securely fasten to the headboard and footboard with bolts which hold together much tighter than the hook in rails. We included a picture we took from the estate showing the previous owner’s box springs in place solely for reference. We never accept used bedding & there are no box springs included in this listing. The bed is in wonderful condition with our only notes being minor surface wear. The bed measures 83 3/4” wide x 90” deep x 86 1/2” tall.
