We are pleased to offer you this fine early 20th Century Japanese Altar or valuables box. We mostly encounter these types of boxes used in worship altar settings. We believe it is made out of Elm by our observations of the grain of the wood. It is adorned with very attractive engraved brass hinges and mountings. The box sits on a separately made frame system and its interior and back panel is covered with a paper lining with Japanese characters which are presumably notes of prayer. The box is 22" long, 16" wide and 20 1/4" tall.
