IMPORTANT FRENCH LOUIS XVI / ART DECO BURLED WALNUT BED W/ MOTHER OF PEARL AND FIGURAL INLAYS
Bay Colony Antiques is pleased to offer to you this wonderful French burl walnut Louis XVI - Art Deco transitional bed. This warm and inviting bed commands attention and will surely be any room's focal point. Furniture tastes and styles would come and go as the years passed. We note design elements consistent with the Biedermeier, Louis XVI, and Art Deco movements all employed into the making of this French bed. The transitional nature and homogenous use of design set this bed apart from most others. The headboard employs a beautiful bookmatched burl walnut design accented with floral and geometric Mother of Pearl inlays creating a very vibrant nice contrast. The headboard is further embellished with brass waterleaves across the headboard crest and decorative brass caps on tapered feet. The footboard consists of three vibrant burled panels with a cross banded walnut surrounding them drawing your eye to the most impressive design. The center panel is decorated with a brass applique of various floral and vine motiffs and a classical urn with strung pearls. Flanking either side of the footboard we arrive at our favorite design element in the bed. The more we take a look at the figural women the more and more we start to notice. We see a pair of mirrored classical women in Grecian dress standing at a podium with Greek keys holding their dress and carrying an urn overhead. The inlay is centered inside satinwood harps and has a very subtle, pleasing sunburst design with graduating bellflowers. Decorative brass appliques with tapering bellflowers adorn the outer footboard legs. The bed is 61" wide x 88" long x 58"tall. The height at the footboard is 32 3/4" and the interior dimensions measure 56 1/2" x 82 1/2".
