IMPORTANT 18TH CENTURY GEORGE III PERIOD MAHOGANY SIDEBOARD
Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost honor in offering you this important 18th Century period George III Chippendale mahogany inlaid sideboard. This is the only dining room piece we could acquire out of the best Chippendale dining room set we've seen sold in the last 30 years. The entire English furniture collection of this Central Massachusetts family was some of the best ever shipped to America & imported by them through their English family in the 1850's. It has descended through the family continually up until 2016. We acquired several breathtaking & significant pieces of furniture from this collection. We see a score of average sideboards each year but this is a masterpiece. The at least 250 year old finish appears to be completely original with its top only cleaned and not refinished. Its possesses second but super period brasses, all original yew & pine secondary panels, interior frame system through tenoned the back of the case, six elegantly tapered legs and the absolutely best rosewood encased by ebony & holly geometric cross banded inlays running all over the case. The top is masterfully ovolo formed and the case has a curved left door, curved right bottle drawer, and features a wide center drawer. Its condition is stunning with after close inspection our only noting a tiny veneer repair to a left panel and 2 rather unusual back leg braces. Place your zoom browser on the back panels. There is absolutely no breaks or restoration to the legs. We believe the block braces were placed there to level it from the out of level Circa 1820's plaster lathe walls. After we couldn't obtain the mismatched table & chairs we bought this outright and we are selling at an extremely fair price. What we know is this is one of the absolute best 18th century George III sideboards that have been brought to market in the last 6 years. It is 70" long, 25 1/2" wide and 37" tall.
