The candlestand is constructed with solid cherry and has retained the original finish throughout over two centuries of use. Since the table has been left entirely all original the finish has mellowed and patinated over time which gives the candlestand tremendous character. The oxidation has created a craquelure that cannot be truly replicated through any process besides natural aging. These attributes are treasured among early American furniture collectors who strive to find pieces as original and undisturbed as can be reasonably expected. The form of the candlestand is exceptional with every component well-proportioned to each other giving the stand a striking appearance and stately presence. Each corner of the top is shaped with an ovolo stylization which adds to the rarity of this early American treasure. The table features the original turtle lock on the backside of the top as well as a finely turned pedestal and three exceptionally well-formed spider legs.
