FEDERAL ANTIQUE STYLE FRIEDMAN BROTHERS COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG LOOKING GLASS / CONVEX MIRROR WITH CANDLE SCONCES & EAGLE
Bay Colony Antiques is pleased to offer for sale this wonderful 20th century Colonial Williamsburg reproduction convex looking glass / mirror. The mirror retains its original Colonial Williamsburg label and Friedman Brothers label. The CW mark is stamped on the left side of the back. This is an exact copy of a mirror in Colonial Williamsburg’s collection, item number 1930-91. We’ll attach a side-by-side picture of the two in the listing.
The mirror is surmounted by a carved eagle with outstretched wings atop a beaded pedestal. The bezel of the mirror features concentric molded edges with a beaded ring towards the outer edge. The glass itself is domed and has an ebonized slip surrounding it. The Foliate carved pendant is absolutely stunning and supports two outcurving candle arms and the faux tassels hanging on chain links from the flowers at the end of the metal curlicues. Most that we encounter are between 24-36 inches wide whereas this example is in a desirable diminutive size measuring 17 1/2” wide x 38” tall. We really enjoy the delicate and feminine nature of this mirror in comparison to some of the more brutish early American designs.
