IMPORTANT 18TH CENTURY PENNSYLVANIA CAST IRON FIREBACK- JAM STOVE PLATE DATED 1749 WITH CUSTOM MADE DISPLAY STAND DEPICTING THE TEMPTATION OF JOSEPH

Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost honor in offering you this is very significant 18th century Pennsylvania cast iron Fireback (jam stove plate) with custom made steel display stand. This dated 1749 important piece of Americana is one of the best purely American Firebacks we have encountered for a very long time. It has all its characters in German (Pa Dutch) with figural depictions. We note it possesses a crack that was welded for which we make no apology or excuses for. This is a very important item of American Pa Dutch history from the forges that won our American independence. After tracking down our edition of the Bible of Iron by Henry C Mercer in our massive research library the very same type specimen is displayed in illustration # 46 in Mr Mercer's book. This tells the tale of "The woman who seeks to corrupt Joseph" from the first book of Moses. It is 25" X 27" and its display stand is ingeniously built holding this upright for safe display.
