SUPERIOR EARLY 20TH CENTURY CHINOISERIE SECRETARY DESK ON CARVED FRAME
Bay Colony Antiques is honored to offer you this very high quality circa 1920-30's Japanned Chinoiserie secretary desk on carved frame. We have been selling very high quality Jappaned decorated furniture and decorative arts for over 40 years and passionate about this subject & its influential form on the decorative furniture art and its fit in overall design scheme here and in Europe. This plateau of design is a specialized niche of our firm as our own parents & theirs before them. From the early William periods of England transitioning into the American blood stream we love this subject. We only select a very limited few of these each year as we desire special & nothing on its bottom tiers. This is that desk! In a stunning very nicely aged red lacquer paint it is gracefully embellished with extraordinary engraved decorative brass hinges and corner jewelry depicting exotic scenes of Japanese genre with men on horseback, pagodas, blossoms with big bold chrysanthemums it holds all its allegoric fables in its design. The desk's doors open to reveal a sophisticated interior which can easily be re-purposed or concurrently used as a bar cabinet. This is a two piece case with the desk top fitting into a heavily carved base frame. We will amend for its measurements soon. This is as good if not better than any other of these we've seen in decades. Its from a clean non smoking estate & always loved and cherished. We note some insignificant blemish on the right side of the case. We are honor bound & required to tell you everything perfect or not but we simply don't sell nice people drama. We are vacillating on if items American or English & no matter its best quality bottom line.
