EARLY 20TH CENTURY HEYWOOD WAKEFIELD ARTS AND CRAFTS WICKER TABLE LAMP
Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.
Were delighted to offer for sale this wonderful early 20th century arts and crafts wicker table lamp by Heywood Wakefield. The Heywood brothers and the Wakefield company began their partnership in 1897. Both firms produced masterful wicker and rattan furniture during the 19th century. Two independent shops producing items on the top tier of the movement were sure to butt heads. Fortunately for our enjoyment the bitter rivals began a partnership and continued to dominate the market with advanced interweaving and new Anglo Japanese, Art Nouveau, and Arts & Crafts designs.
This is an early 20th century lamp with complex weaves and desirable color pallet. We note minimal age appropriate loss to the decorative beads attached to the shade. The shade retains it's original silk liner. This came to us without a label which would generally be placed under the lamp base. These get taken off or fall off over the years, our collectors know what they're looking at. With all electrical items especially of this age we'd advise having an electrician or handyman look over the wiring. One can be replaced for a nominal amount. This lamp has a 9" diameter at the base. A 17" diameter at the shade, and stands 23" tall.
