With our highest compliments we're proud to offer for sale this wonderful 12 inch terrestrial globe by W & AK Johnston. William & Alexander Keith Johnston were English born brothers that began their partnership in 1826. They started their careers as a printing & engraving service with a focus on cartography. The duo strived to update inaccurate maps with paintstaking detail & flawless scientific methods. By 1834 the pair was so well received they were appointed to work directly for King William IV.
This globe is dated 1908 & signed "12 Inch Globe by W & AK Johnston Limited Geographers Engravers & printers Edinburgh And London". These are scientific instruments with a plethora of information & work put into the craft. The 12 inch globe shows railways, isothermal lines, important information cables, scales of time, latitude & longitude, etc. This is still affixed to it's original decorative cast iron base. We note minimal scratching & raising of some of the paper & a few areas that appear as white spots. This spot bleaching is caused from a past event where a drip of water or likely alcohol was spilled on the globe. We're attempting to by hyper critical here for our clients. Most times these are heavily banged up and severly cracked so we were willing to look past these minimal "flaws" on this now 100+ year old scientific instrument. The globe again has a 12" diameter and is 20" tall.
