SHERATON PERIOD CIRCA 1820's NEW YORK CITY FIGURED MAHOGANY GENTLEMAN'S TALL CHEST
With our compliments we are pleased to offer you this most outstanding quality Sheraton period New York City Gentleman's tall chest circa 1820. This is a very handsome and substantial chest of drawers typical of the works of J.B. Sylvester, Duncan Phyfe or the Allison Brother's workshop. Each were producing identical specimens' of these Sheraton Tall Chests. Absent the shop's labels which have mostly flaked away over the centuries, no one can exactly say on these tall chests. It is adorned in a great figured mahogany and accented by period lion head brass pulls, carved columns and finely turned vasal formed feet. The finish on this chest is exceptional. This tall chest is formatted in a two over four drawer format, graduated, with the first of the four full sized drawers being extra large. All the drawers are defined by cock bead moldings, all original hand hewn wide plank chamfered panels, the finest hand cut dovetailed joinery and its original bottom panels. This is the original period first generation of classic Sheraton design in tall chests. This tradition was continued well into the 20th century by the very finest custom furniture makers. This is a fantastic tall chest that will hold a very large amount of your wardrobe. The drawers have a clean crisp action and the chest is in great condition. We note two small professionally applied shellac fills on its top that are not prominent. Anything we observe no matter how minuscule we are going to tell you about. This substantial tall chest of drawers measures 44 1/2" long, 21" wide (deep) and stands 49" tall.
