19TH CENTURY ENGLISH GEORGE III YEW WOOD CANDLE STAND IN ORIGINAL PERIOD SURFACE
Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques and decorative arts offered for sale cutting out expensive gallery fees and operating costs other dealers must charge. We're pleased to offer for sale this wonderful period 19th century George III yew wood candle stand in original finish.
We've been extremely busy turning over major New England estates. We apologize for our short absence however we're loaded to bear with 100's of new stock waiting to be offered. This is a fantastic three legged English candle stand made of beautiful English yew. Yew wood is highly coveted in woodworking for its unique grain and rich color. It's the softest of the hardwoods and was used for everything from crossbows to the first Windsor chairs. Ash could be bent easier however it didn't have the durability of the harder Yew. Yew is infamously stubborn to work with however they would put in the painstaking work for one of the most highly coveted indigenous timbers.
The octagonal top has a fine molded edge and retains its old correct finish. The turned pedestal features crisp vasiform and double ring turnings in elegant and balanced proportions. The candle stand terminates with 3 unusual and fun cabriolet legs with a flared foot. We love bringing early American furniture to market and share the same passion with early continental antiques. In a divisive world it's refreshing to find joy and a connection to others through our pursuits and treasures.
