Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic early 20th century antique Chippendale style Mahogany lowboy / dressing table. Crafted in the classic Philadelphia style, this lowboy is absolutely stunning. This lowboy features desirably diminutive proportions measuring only 30 3/4” wide x 20 3/4” deep x 31” tall-perfect for that hard to furnish space. The lowboy has pinched corners with a graceful Cupid’s bow design on the top. The lowboy employs a traditional 1 over 3 format, with carved quarter columns flanking the drawers. The drawers are adorned with pierced Chippendale batwing brasses and a carved shell and vine motif on the lower center drawer. The drawers are joined with hand cut dovetails and have hand chamfered panels.

The apron showcases a pleasing scrolling pattern with dramatic cutouts and bold spurs, centered by a double carved scallop or shell motif. The cabriolet legs are finely formed and feature carved shells at the knee. The legs terminate with masterfully carved ball & claw feet that convey a lifelike, powerful grip on the ball. This iconic ball and claw foot design, which emerged during the Chippendale period, was influenced by far eastern imagery of a dragon clutching a pearl.

The entire case was constructed from a high grade of Mahogany, and the sides feature attractive cutout detailing as well. The underside of the apron is rich with tool marks and overall the dressing table is in wonderful condition with our only notes being minor surface wear and light scratching to the top, but nothing that would warrant a refinishing in our opinion.

Once again, the dressing table features wonderfully compact proportions and measures 30 3/4” wide x 20 3/4” deep x 31” tall.
