FABULOUS ART DECO SHOPPING MARKET ANTIQUE COFFEE BEAN GRINDER IN MECHANICAL RUNNING CONDITION
With our sincere pleasure we are delighted to offer you this absolute art deco treasure. This is a shopping market coffee bean grinder that was made by the The American Duplex Company of Louisville "2" Kentucky USA, circa 1930. It was designed to be used in a supermarket so shoppers could grind their coffee beans for one of four uses in either one or three pound bags. The bag's edge trips a solenoid switch on the dispenser. The motor still functions wonderfully. They just built electric motors like that back then and we will revisit this subject. This is a remarkable piece that we were honored to purchase from a lovely Western Massachusetts woman. It is estate found and fresh to the market. Its body is red, white and grey with stainless trim. The paint is still in an overall decent condition with some paint wear from customers handling it over the years. It comes out of an old A&P market (The Atlantic Pacific Tea Co) and a family that shares history with our own. This is American Duplex's "Grindmaster" model 500. Its serial # is 16773, it runs on 115 volts, 60 cycles at 7 amps. It is 100% complete with even the adjustable bean bag base holder, so it can be set for either one or three pound bag purchases. It has an advertising display with lighted widow. The top red door you open to pour your coffee beans in has fabulous advertising and we believe it to be Bakelite. This approximately 80-100 pound machine, grinds beans so nicely that we dare say nothing much equaling its quality has ever been made since. We want to come back to the issue of a 1930's electric device. The motor purrs and light functions well. We ran it several times and have had a lot of fun. The cord appears to be the original and it is still wonderful in appearance, but this a 80 year old piece and we absolutely and unquestionably advise you to have this TRIPLE checked. We simply do not know and only make assumptions as to its present condition and safety. Any dealer not advising a buyer to do anything less is irresponsible. If we believed it to be dangerous we would not be selling it. We are a family business and we deeply care about these things. The body of this wonderfully pure Art Deco Institutional piece is 24" tall, 14" wide and 11" deep. This will have to be a freight class shipment, that will be shipped after being properly crated and banded on a small pallet.
