ANTIQUE VICTORIAN TIGER OAK PARLOR TABLE WITH OGEE FEET AND "S" FORMED SUPPORTS
With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this wonderful antique parlor table. These circular formed tables were made at the end of the 19th century for parlors or common areas in Victorian homes. Quite often they can be found with an antique lamp on top of them so the term "lamp table" is commonly applied to these tables. This example is a remarkable piece with the entirety of the table having been constructed from solid tiger oak lumber. The table is finished in a beautiful golden oak color which absolutely radiates with exposure to sunlight. Furthermore, the bold quartersawn tiger grain of the oak is highly figured and fully accentuated with the help of the beautiful finish. Beside an insignificant mark on the top this entire table is in pristine condition.
The table is made with inspiration from the earlier Empire period style with highly stylized lateral supports. These "S" curved elements provide this table with a particular elegance that is often lacking from commonly found antique parlor tables. The ogee curved feet which support the table are also indicative of the earlier Empire period design movement. We are quite fond of this table as it came to us from a magnificent estate with a significant collection of American oak furniture we had the privilege of procuring. This table had been loved and cared for by the same family for generations and we have no doubt that the next owner of this charming antique will treasure it as we do. The table has a 28 1/4” diameter and is 29 1/4” tall.
