Antique Victorian Tiger Oak Four Drawer File Cabinet with Pull Out Writing Tab
Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic late 19th century / early 20th century Antique Oak 4 drawer file cabinet. We sell a decent amount of standard vertical file cabinets every year and are always in the market for atypical forms like this example. These shorter companion files are much harder to come by and we love the added utility of the pull-out work surface that is concealed underneath the top. The pull-out work surface appears to be a later addition by a previous owner CA 1950/1960. There is a very cool midcentury “do it yourself” decal on the aluminum frame.
When grading antique files, we like to first look at the construction. Examples with paneled sides and paneled backs will always command a premium over ones with flat sides. It is anlso important to consider the grade of the lumber and whether the file is solid or veneered. The Quarter sawn Oak used for the file possess a very bold grain with large vibrant rays on just about every surface. Each of the four drawers are solid Oak so there is no need to worry about any veneer issues now or in the future. The condition of the file is also important, this cabinet is in very good condition with our only notes being minor surface wear and some light paint transfer on the back. The drawers have useable dimensions of 18 1/4” wide x 13 1/2” deep x 4 1/2” tall. The overall dimensions of the cabinet are 24” wide x 20” deep x 30” tall.
