Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic Antique Victorian Oak lock side chest of drawers. It has been about a year since we last had a lock side in stock and we only encounter a handful each year. We have to pass up on the majority of them due to condition issues which made this find that much sweeter. The chest has 5 drawers with a beveled edge, and they all retain their original brass pulls. The pulls are extremely rare and absolutely stunning with an owl design at the center. Antique hardware continues to increase in value, and we could easily see these pulls selling for $100 each, possibly more. It would probably be in our best interest financially to re-brass the chest and sell the pulls on their own, but that’s not how we operate. We want to place this undisturbed Victorian chest in one of our clients' homes where they can enjoy it with all of its original splendor.

The double paneled sides were a nice aesthetic choice, and also serve the function of allowing the wood to move ever so slightly to accommodate seasonal changes of heat and humidity without splitting. Oak is very durable, and the entire chest is solid oak, not veneered. The gallery has a similar double paneled design and is scrolled on the ends with a pierce carved leaf. The gallery and the top drawer showcase the best cuts of oak and the top drawer has a compartmentalized interior. The chest is in very good condition with our only notes being a small piece of wood missing from the front most drawer divider in the top drawer, & minor surface wear, the worst of which being the light stain on the second drawer. This is without a doubt one of the nicest lock sides that we’ve encountered in quite some time, and we look forward to offering this to our clients around the US and finding a good home for the chest. The chest measures 34 1/2” wide x 19” deep x 58 3/4” tall at the top of the gallery (48” at dresser top).
