ANTIQUE VICTORIAN TIGER OAK SIXTEEN DRAWER CARVED DENTAL CABINET BY RANSOM & RANDOLPH
With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this impressive antique dental cabinet. We have owned many variations of dental cabinets throughout the years and have always found them to be wise investments as demand for choice antique examples has continually appreciated over time. The cabinet which we now offer is among the finest versions of a floor standing dental or physician's cabinet to have been produced during the late 19th century. This cabinet was designed and constructed by The Ransom and Randolph Company of Toledo, Ohio who produced many of the finest medical cabinets during our nation's history. Today demand for their cabinets has reached an all time high with some resellers choosing to market identical cabinets for thousands above what we now presently offer this fine example for. Antique collectors understand that scarcity and demand both drive prices upwards and undoubtedly this particular cabinet will be nearly impossible to purchase for anywhere close to our present price in the years to come.
The entire cabinet is constructed from a premium grade of tiger oak with boldly figured wood grain further enhanced by a beautiful finish of equal parts golden and darker toned colors. In the daylight this cabinet absolutely illuminates and maintains a strong and commanding presence. The ornamental brass hardware work is of the finest order available with a sophistication of design unique to nearly anything that came before or after it. The cabinet features several mirrored panels including a rounded beveled panel fixed into the top center of the gallery. Each component of the top gallery is masterfully shaped and the primary board is designed with exceptionally well carved foliate elements. The cabinet stands on ogee bracket feet and boasts three cabinet doors that open to allow for additional storage.
Sixteen primary drawers and a pull out writing or work surface comprise the majority of the cabinet with the top and central drawer units designed to fully rotate and pivot as a matter of both practicality and brilliant design ingenuity. Obviously a practicing surgeon or doctor would greatly prefer this rotating function over traditional drawers as it allows for multiple drawers to be open at once without interference from each other. The center cabinet drawers feature a curved serpentine form that impressively contributes to the overall sophistication and immense talent required to create this highly functional cabinet. We are incredibly proud to be able to offer this dental cabinet for the consideration of collectors across the country and we have no doubt it will soon belong to a collector who will give it a wonderful home. This antique dental cabinet measures 26 1/4" wide x 16" deep x 64" tall overall.
