Antique Victorian Oak Six Drawer Merrick's Spool Cabinet - Original Eagle Decals
Antique Victorian Oak Six Drawer Merrick's Spool Cabinet - Original Eagle Decals
It is with our highest compliments that Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering one of the scarcest antique spool cabinets that we have encountered in the past several years. Over the past two decades we have watched demand for high quality spool cabinets strongly increase and have had great difficulty in replacing them in our inventory as they are popular nationwide. In fact had we not recently networked on a recent delivery route from New England to California we never would have come to own this prize of an antique. We find too often that whichever antique spool cabinets are available at a given time in New England are either of lower quality or the present owner believes the cabinet to be worth far more than what fair market price ultimately bears out. We take great pride in offering a superior version of the iconic spool cabinet at a price which is exceedingly fair given how strong demand is against regional availability.
This Merrick's spool cabinet is a product of the late 19th century and is constructed of solid white oak. The cabinet also functions as a writing desk with a slant lid writing surface and the original inset inkwell with a swiveling covered top. The top opens to reveal a storage area as an added feature. Each of the six drawers retain the original embossed brass ringlet pull hardware and stenciled drawer faces. Please be aware that spool cabinets are often comprised of replaced components particularly when they have paint decorated glass facings and sold without any explanation that they are comprised of elements from the modern era. This of course greatly impacts the true value of the cabinet and prevents unassuming buyers from receiving an item truly worth the price they are paying. We say that to boast that this particular Merrick's spool cabinet retains the entirety of the original stenciling, hardware, and most importantly the original commercial eagle decaled emblems strongly present on each side of the case. If you are in the market for a truly rare and valuable antique spool cabinet free from any significant alterations or replacements which obviously impact the value you will find no better that we now respectfully offer for sale. Along with J & P Coates, Merrick's has remained the premier name in antique spool cotton related products for the past century and will continue to command a premium among discerning collectors for generations to come. We look forward to seeing this exceptional spool cabinet find a home in a deserving collection. The spool cabinet measures 30" wide x 22 1/2" deep x 15" tall. When the lid is fully open the height is 32" tall.
