ANTIQUE VICTORIAN OAK RAISED PANEL ROLL TOP OFFICE DESK WITH COMPLETE INTERIOR
With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this exceptional antique office desk. We are immensely proud to present this remarkable antique desk as it is among the best examples of it's form we have ever previously been fortune enough to offer. This desk is comprised of two main components: a top section with an "S" form retracting tambour blind and a base section consisting of two banks of drawers connected by an elongated center drawer. The rolltop section opens to reveal one of the most sophisticated and elaborate interiors which we have ever encountered before. This desk boasts 27 individual interior drawers designed into the interior with varying intended purposes. Additionally, the central interior area has compartmented paper document spaces. The drawers all retain the original brass placards and pulls and absent the inset lock the desk retains every original element. Often locks are pulled out so that the desktop does not shut and lock accidently. The retracting tambour blind is in excellent condition and works with relative ease.
The base section of this desk has a left side bank of drawers that consists of four drawers while the right side drawer bank features two matching drawers and a lower double drawer. Every drawer is fitted with exceptional carved pulls and the drawer banks feature wonderful vertical reeded elements. The drawer banks are designed with a pronounced baseboard molding on all sides and the banks are connected with a central arched rail beneath the middle drawer. The desk has a great kneehole space and is designed with raised panels on all sides. This desk was likely a bankers desk and intended to be in the center of a room due to the remarkable paneling featured prominently on the back. Both banks are permanently fixed together as the desk is constructed without a modesty panel and instead with a continual back panel that does not come apart. We believe this desk may have been produced by The Cutler Furniture Company as it is sophisticated and in keeping with much of what we know the company to have made. The desk measures 50” wide x 32” deep x 50 1/4” tall.
