These smaller form chests have become some of the most sought after and prized offerings of any forms of antique furniture in recent years. We vigorously pursue these diminutive chests whenever the opportunity presents itself as we have handled numerous examples in the past, all of which went to beautiful homes. The common sentiment among collectors seeking out antique lingerie chests are that they are "the perfect size" for areas of the home which are typically too small for most standard pieces of furniture. In the Victorian era, these smaller scale chests were designed for woman who needed space for smaller garments and accessories and often these chests were styled to complement existing furniture in a bedroom suite. While many collectors still use lingerie chests for their intended purpose it is also worth noting that these chests can also be utilized for the storage of valuables or collectibles as they are often the best solution for decorating and storage challenges. This antique lingerie chest consists of five drawers which are each fashioned with decorative brass hardware. The chest also features raised panel sides and fine scrolling around the base and on the gallery which is also adorned with an applied carved foliate element. The chest is finished in a beautiful golden oak color which absolutely illuminates a room especially when exposed to moderate sunlight. The back of the chest is well oxidized and features stenciling from the original manufacturer during the late 19th century. The entire piece is in wonderful condition with sturdy and dependable drawers and a tightly secured case which will properly function for generations to come. The chest is assisted by caster wheels along the base which are optional and can be removed if so desired. Overall, the lingerie chest measures 22" wide x 16" deep x 53" tall at the gallery and 47 1/4" tall at the top of the chest.
