With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this wonderful antique bookcase. We had the good fortune of acquiring this bookcase from a collector who used it for many years to house a large assortment of books in their library. This bookcase was produced at the height of the Victorian era towards the end of the 19th century. It is constructed from a premium grade of white oak which has developed a rich color and patina throughout many years. We do note some distress and wear to the finish along the left facing side that has no bearing at all on the value. The bookcase features a double door configuration with two molded doors surrounded by beadwork molding and intricate carvings along the perimeter of all three of the frontward facing sides. Additionally, two wonderful shell carved designs are carved into the corners of the bookcase. Oak is widely considered one of the hardest woods to carve into which in part is what makes this bookcase so special and unique. The center storage cavity is partitioned allowing for easier access to a large assortment of books. The bookcase opens to reveal eight adjustable half shelves which can be raised or lowered due to the vertical system holes which span the interior. The shelves have 21 different height adjustments and each shelf has useable dimensions of 21 3/4” wide x 11 1/2” deep. This example would also serve as an excellent showcase or storage cabinet as so many collectors often decide to use them for. The bookcase features two wonderful Victorian brass door handles and glass doors which display wonderful signs of age. The bookcase measures 46” wide x 13 3/8” deep x 62 1/4” tall.
