ANTIQUE CA 1850-1860 VERMONT CHERRY CHEST OF DRAWERS WITH BENNINGTON POTTERY KNOBS

Bay Colony Antiques is pleased to offer for sale this fantastic mid 19th century antique country Sheraton chest of drawers / dresser. The chest is predominantly Cherry with the boldest figured boards reserved for the drawer faces. We love the three-drawer format, and while it might not be the flashiest or most expensive chest we’ve ever offered, it’s extremely well made and would be a great utilitarian chest that will stand up well to everyday use. The drawer faces are solid Cherry with a nice set of hand cut dovetails. Because the chest has paneled sides & a paneled back, the wood can shift ever so slightly in the frame and is the reason why this chest doesn’t have any age splits after nearly two centuries of use. The chest has 5 Bennington pottery knobs that are mostly intact with one being a replacement. We purchased this from a home in Washington County New York that was only about 20 miles from Bennington Vermont. We believe the chest was made right around the area CA 1850-1860. Overall, the chest is in very good condition with our only additional notes being the top was shellacked by a previous owner & has a slight depression towards the back center, probably from an old candle burn. The depression isn’t very deep and could possibly even just be a natural flaw in the wood that the cabinet maker chose to use anyways because of the unique swirling grain pattern. The chest measures 37” wide x 18 3/4” deep x 34 1/2” tall.
