With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this exceptional and rare antique work table. We are always on the hunt for interesting and unusual examples of late 18th and early 19th century antique tables as our client base are in constant need of various design options for their historic interiors. These work tables make the perfect addition for most rooms in the household particularly as bedside tables or nightstands. Collectors also utilize these tables for hallways and around windows as the heights generally work well with the existing architectural millwork and in the spaces between windows. There are endless uses around the home for these tables and we find that they are among the few antique items most people are reluctant to part with when downsizing their collections.

Our present offering is one of the rarer variations of the traditional New England antique work table. This table has both dropleaf ends which expand the surface area of the top and a two drawer format that provides additional utility. We believe this example was produced by a master craftsman working in Vermont around the beginning of the 19th century. The entire piece is constructed of a premium grade of mahogany with crotched mahogany applied to the drawer faces and book matched to create a beautiful design. Both drawers are fitted with intricate glass knobs which have desirable patterns that we attribute to The Boston & Sandwich Glass Company. The drawers are fitted with brass escutcheons and are built with well executed hand cut dovetail joinery. There exists oxidation from two centuries that contribute to the historic charm of the table overall. All four legs display intricate and masterful turning patterns indicative of similar works produced by Vermont master furniture builders. The table measures 17 3/4" wide x 18 3/4" deep x 29 3/4" tall. When the leaves are up the tabletop measures 33 1/4" wide.
