We’re pleased to offer for sale this exceptional early 19th-century Sheraton mahogany tilt-top candlestand. This is one of the finest examples of its kind we’ve had the pleasure to offer in years, and it remains in remarkable condition.
Due to their delicate construction, these tables are often found with repairs to the legs—just one misstep can cause a break. This example, however, is entirely free of repairs, and it’s notably larger than most we encounter. The tabletop measures 21" wide by 28 3/8" deep, whereas similar candlestands typically feature a top just 20–22" deep. Its larger size adds practicality for modern use, making it ideal as a lamp or occasional table. The table features a scalloped top that highlights a rich mahogany grain. The pedestal is elegantly turned, and the piece is supported by three down swept saber legs with fine reed carvings at the top edges. With the top tilted up, the table measures 22 1/2" wide at the feet, 20" deep, and 44" tall. When secured down with its original brass catch, it measures 21" wide by 28 3/8" deep by 28" tall.
