Bay colony antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic early 20th century antique arts and crafts oak file cabinet by the Shaw Walker company of Muskegon Michigan. The company was founded during the final years of the 19th century with a partnership between Mr. Arch W Shaw & Mr. L.C Walker. Similar to the Amberg company, Shaw Walker began as a stationery company with a patented filing system for organizing office papers. The company eventually purchased the Muskegon Cabinet company and produced a wide array of office furniture such as this two drawer Oak card catalog filing cabinet offered for sale here.
The cabinet has larger drawers than most card catalog / index card catalogs we encounter which measure 8 1/8” wide x 13” deep x 5 1/2” tall. We’re constantly asked for cabinets like these that can house CD’s but most of them have drawers only 3-4 inches tall which won’t fit them. For the hundreds of people who have asked us that question throughout the years, we’re happy to say this can comfortably house your CD collection. Each drawer retains its original brass thumb molded pull and tension plates on the interior. The case is as tight as the day it was made thanks to the dovetail construction showcased on the top and bottom edge. The original gold Shaw Walker decal is intact and overall the cabinet is in very good condition with our only notes being minor surface wear & a tiny veneer chip on the bottom left corner of the back edge. The cabinet measures 19 3/4” wide x 16” deep x 7 1/4” tall.
