Antique Queen Anne Wall Hanging Two Drawer Spice Cabinet in Old Mustard Paint
Antique Queen Anne Wall Hanging Two Drawer Spice Cabinet in Old Mustard Paint
With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this incredibly rare and charming antique wall hung spice cupboard. This example is one of the finest we have ever encountered, and we could not be any prouder to offer it. We believe that this piece has been adorning the walls of various New England homes since the early 19th century with all indications that it has had a long life as it demonstrates considerable signs of age. The entire cupboard is painted with a mustard yellow and Spanish brown mixture which has oxidized overtime developing a very desirable craquelure or crazed texture. The interior of each of the drawers is varnished so that insects would not be compelled to inhabit the piece and seek out the spices stored above or within. This wall hung cupboard is designed with two drawers below a storage shelf which would have sat various spices stored within tin cannisters. Overall, the spice cabinet has a wonderful aesthetic with shaped sides and a paddle form handle scrolled into the design of the top. This primitive antique would serve the interior of any country home or cottage perfectly particularly if hung in the kitchen as these pieces were originally intended for. Overall, this spice cupboard measures 13 1/2" wide x 4 1/2" deep x 30 3/4" tall. Each of the turned knobs are an inch long so the piece measures 5 1/2" deep should that be a consideration.
