With our highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering an exceptional and rare antique footstool. We have dated this footstool to either the late 19th or early 20th century and we believe that it was custom made for a collection close to Pennsylvania. It has been our pleasure to offer some of the finest early American furniture from Pennsylvania available anywhere and we have developed truly wonderful relationships with brilliant collectors of unique Queen Anne and Chippendale influenced furniture as a result. Our continued practice of seeking out quality regional American furniture has led to us having the good fortune of studying antiques not commonly found anywhere and we thoroughly enjoy sharing our insights with anyone interested. Based on the craftsman's interpretation of the iconic ball & claw carved legs and the usage of a rare grade of walnut near identical to traditional Queen Anne Pennsylvania furniture we have attributed this footstool to either Pennsylvania or the greater Delaware River Valley region. This stool has graceful cabriole legs with curved knee returns and some of the finest ball & claw carving work produced on any antique footstools that have come to market. The exceptional walnut legs are contrasted expertly by the gold satin silk damask pattern fabric covering which is vibrant and of the finest quality. Please refer to our series of photos for the most accurate condition of the upholstery. We note an area that has been stretched out and distressed, but we have opted to leave the footstool exactly as we found it as the upholstery is of the highest quality and we are absolutely taken with how beautiful the entire piece is. We purchased this missing one knee block and already have our restorer carving a replacement. Antique footstools are treasured throughout the entire country, and we are sincerely looking forward to placing this remarkable item in a home where it will be cherished for generations to come. The footstool measures 24 1/2" wide x 17" deep x 18 1/2" tall.
