Antique Pennsylvania Walnut Country Dropleaf Bakers Table With Large Drawer
Antique Pennsylvania Walnut Country Dropleaf Bakers Table With Large Drawer
With our highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this wonderful early 19th century antique bakers table. This example is about as large and accommodating as any other antique table one could reasonably expect to find. This table is a rare and early version of a bakers table, or a table featuring one single dropleaf side, originating somewhere in the Pennsylvania countryside around the turn of the 19th century. The entire table is constructed from a premium grade of walnut which grows readily throughout Pennsylvania and from which most early furniture from the state's history derives from. Several considerably wide old growth boards are used to comprise the table's top and primary dropleaf end. The surface of the table is outstanding with all the charm and signs of wear which only centuries of continued use can produce. The frame of the table is constructed with pegged joints which are an indication of a knowledgeable furniture builder experienced enough to understand how these reinforcements contribute to the longevity of the table throughout centuries. The drawer features primitive hand cut dovetails joining the drawer box, and an expertly chamfered drawer panel, which are both further indications of quality construction. The table is supported by five turned legs in the Sheraton manner with one of the legs serving as a gateleg which supports the table leaf when hinged upright. Additionally, antique iron hinges and two 20th century support braces contribute to the secure and steady everyday use which generations have depended on. The size of this table is perhaps its most desirable feature as it is large and quite practical should you require an antique table which can fill a space well and be relied upon for the indefinite future. The table measures 26 1/4" wide when the dropleaf end is not upright and expands to 45 1/4" wide with the dropleaf end hinged upright. From front to back the table is 48 1/4" deep and it stands 29" tall overall.
