Bay Colony Antiques is pleased to offer for sale this fantastic pair of antique Tiger Maple & Bird’s Eye Maple side chairs. The chairs have solid Tiger Maple seat boxes & the majority of the crests are curly maple with the exception of the rolled tops which are Bird’s Eye Maple. The crests have wonderful gothic cutouts, and the splat is well formed and pretty generously proportioned for smaller scale chairs. The front flat stretchers are also Bird’s Eye Maple, and each chair has an additional 6 round stretchers making the pair nice & sturdy. The round stretchers, front legs, rear stiles, & splats also appear to be Maple. The cane seat on the chair on the right is in perfect condition. The cane seat on the chair on the left has a few cracks in the caning, but nothing that compromises its structural integrity and would require having the seat done over. The seats had no problem supporting my weight at close to 200 pounds, but we still strongly recommend buying cushions or having a couple made to prolong the longevity of the seats by evenly distributing the weight across the cane. The chairs measure 18” wide x 18” deep x 34” tall with a 17” seat height.
