Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful pair of early 19th century antique Sheraton Bird's Eye Maple side chairs. The chairs have rush seats that are free of any damage. The rear stiles exhibit a dramatic gait and transition from round at the bottom to a chamfered edge about halfway up the stiles, right above the series of ringlet carvings. There is some attractive Birds Eye figuring present with the most highly figured boards used for the crests and horizontal slats. They’re a wonderful pair of country chairs, and we found the old insect damage on one of the crests to be an endearing trait. In a top tier cabinet shop this wood would have been immediately disqualified for use & discarded, but that’s part of the charm with country furniture and their make-do approach of cabinet making. The chairs are nice and sturdy and measure 18" wide x 19 1/2" deep including the splay of the back (16" deep at feet) x 34" tall with a 17 3/4" seat height.
