Antique New Hampshire Flame Birch Sheraton Chest Of Drawers / Dresser
Antique New Hampshire Flame Birch Sheraton Chest Of Drawers / Dresser
Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful early 19th century antique New Hampshire Flame Birch chest of drawers. The chest is visually striking, and we especially love the fact that the maker didn’t shy away from using the darker heartwood, they decided to showcase it front & center on the drawer faces. The chest has 4 graduated drawers meaning they get larger in size as they descend. Each drawer retains its original embossed brass pulls with a floral design and the original 8-sided escutcheons. The drawers are flanked by reed carved columns and the chest is supported by slender turned feet. The chest has single board sides which are pretty large considering Birch doesn’t often grow thicker than 3 feet.
Our photo showing the bottom of the chest shows a great set of hand cut dovetails that join the sides to the bottom. The previous owners had the chest professionally refinished, and some routine maintenance performed like replacing the glue blocks and replacing the runners on the right side of the top & bottom drawers that can be seen in our photo with the drawers open. The color is absolutely wonderful, and this would be great in a dark room to help brighten up the space. We considered pricing this about $500 higher & felt wholly justified to do so when we took a look at what our competitors were offering at this same price point. We decided to leave it at this no-nonsense, sweetheart price for our clients around the country who deserve to reap the reward for shopping with us. The chest measures 40 1/2” wide x 18 1/2” deep x 37” tall.
