EARLY 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE NEW ENGLAND SHERATON
TIGER MAPLE & CHERRY SINGLE DRAWER WORK TABLE
With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this wonderful antique work table. Most New England households towards the end of the 18th century had several of these tables spread throughout various rooms. Typically, these tables were utilized by the lady of the household who would spend considerable amounts of time sewing clothing and quilts throughout the year. Often these tables are used as bedside nightstand tables or placed between window systems as the perfect accent pieces. There are endless design options for where to place these tables in the home as nearly every room can benefit from the utility that they offer.
We believe that our present offering was produced in Vermont around the beginning of the 19th century circa 1800 - 1815. The entire piece is constructed from a premium grade of cherry and is contrasted by a beautiful tiger maple drawer face. The drawer is constructed with handcut dovetails and features centuries of natural oxidation typical of an early American antique table. The table is raised on four legs which all have elegant turnings particularly around the bottom with triple compressed ball patterns. This table has been cared for throughout two centuries and remains in exceptional condition. For any collector wanting to add the perfect antique side table to their collection this example is truly one of the finest offerings worth considering and we have no doubt it will soon be in a home where generations will enjoy and cherish it for many years to come. The stand measures 18 5/8” wide x 19 1/8” deep x 27 1/2” tall.
