With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this exceptional and rare antique table. This particular example had been used beside an antique bed as a nightstand or bedside table for a considerable amount of time and we are marketing it as such because it makes the perfect companion to go alongside a bed. Quite often single drawer tables made towards the end of the 18th century and into the first quarter of the 19th century are designated as end tables or as work tables depending on how they were intended to be used within the home. This table is purposefully made to be about two inches shorter than most standard tables in the Sheraton manner, and we interpret this to mean that it was always intended to be made for a specific purpose such as beside an antique bed frame. There is no limit to how this table may be used or in which room of the house it could be intended for as it is practical and well suited for any number of interior settings.

This wonderful antique table is comprised of a special selection of solid bird's eye maple lumber along with cherry both of which were sourced from the New England countryside. We believe that this table was produced in either Vermont or New Hampshire at the end of the 18th century. The craftsman who built this table styled the entire piece in the Sheraton manner with expertly turned solid cherry legs. The top of the table is made of the finest possible example of solid bird's eye maple available to anyone producing furniture in this era and exhibits a rich and desirable figured grain pattern. There are several marks on the top which are better left alone as the color of this table is as close to perfect as any collector could hope for. The drawer has a single brass pull that is typical of the period and has remained in excellent condition. One leg was repaired at some point in the past however the repair is difficult to notice and in no way compromises the stability of the piece as a whole. We note handcut dovetailed construction and pegged joinery as two of the hallmarks that the original craftsman utilized in building this table and ensuring it would remain strong and secure for years to come. The table measures 18 1/4" wide x 17 3/4" deep x 25 1/4" tall.
