ANTIQUE MASSACHUSETTS MAHOGANY CARD TABLE / GAME TABLE
WITH OVOLO CORNERS - CIRCA 1810
Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful early 19th century antique Massachusetts Mahogany card table / game table. The table has an ovolo top with and an incised line carving along the edge. The top and fold out leaf feature superb cuts of solid Santo Domingan Mahogany with large arches, dark striations, and a nice chatoyancy. Santo Domingan Mahogany was among the most sought-after species of wood for 18th & 19th century cabinet makers. The dark striations were caused by mineral deposits in the soil in which it grew, and its signature sheen is due to the natural oil density of the wood. The back left leg is a gate leg which swivels on finger joints and supports the leaf when in the gaming position. The apron showcases beautiful Mahogany veneers & mirrors the shape of the top. The table is in fantastic condition with our only notes condition notes being minor surface wear and a tiny bit of trim molding at the bottom of the apron missing. The table measures 35” wide x 17 1/4” deep x 28 1/2” tall. When the top is flipped open the table is 34 3/8” deep.
