With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this exceptional and rare antique center table. These particular tables are considerably hard to come by as the majority of them which still remain are held in private collections. Interior designers are in constant need of these grand center tables even for homes that are not historic in nature as they make an incredible statement in foyers or stunning entryways where they are often placed beneath a large chandelier. There are other practical uses for these tables within a home however since they are designed with three drawers which can be fully used the spaces reserved for center tables are quite often in the center of a room. Often center tables are more opulent in nature as they are intended to be the focal point of a room and in many cases the very first piece to grab the attention of someone entering a home.

This table is largely comprised of mahogany with brilliant crotched mahogany as well present on the larger visible surfaces. The table is in remarkable condition having only had minimal maintenance and some smaller repairs which are of absolutely no consequence. The three drawers are curved and expertly crafted with hand cut dovetail joinery. The apron of the table has bold figuring which create a paneled effect in the transitional spaces between each of the drawers. The pedestal is fashioned in the form of an obelisk taken from classical antiquity as this was quite a popular design element towards the later part of the Classical design movement. This decorative period is considered the second half of the American Federal movement which lasted well into the second quarter of the 19th century. We apply the title of late Federal to those design pieces created during any point which may have extended into the mid 19th century.

The tripod platform base allows this center table to command any space which the table occupies with integrity and grace. There are three finely carved feet present which have a foliate type carving emerging from the curved ends of each foot. We note that one foliate carving is lacking part of the protruding element which is visible in the photos however easily overlooked with respect to the grandeur of the table overall. A hand forged threaded iron rod and nut assembly connect the three table elements: top, pedestal, and base securely to one another. This feature is of potential benefit should the table need to be taken apart for some reason at any point in the future of its existence. We cannot overstate just how exceptional this antique center table truly is or how fortunate we feel to now offer it for the consideration of collectors nationwide. The table has a 39 1/2” diameter and is 28 3/4” tall with 23 1/8” of clearance under the apron.
