With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques proudly offers this wonderful antique game table. We have also come to market these tables as console tables as the majority of them are placed in hallways and displayed with the top leaf folded upward and supported by the wall. Antique game tables, or card tables as they are also referred to, have the ability to both open and swivel so that several people may sit at the table for short periods of time. This table was constructed by an expert furniture maker working in the Northeast during the first part of the previous century. The design is inspired by the traditional 18th century tables first made based on Hepplewhite's original book of ornate furniture patterns which were adapted well into the American Federal period.
This table is expertly fashioned with an ovolo shaped top and stands on finely formed tapered legs. Masterful inlay work is intricately channeled around the top edges along with string inlay inset into the legs and cuffs just several inches from the floor. Two beautiful inlaid conch shells and a central oval flame sycamore panel serve to embellish the frontward facing side of the table apron. This table is constructed from a premium grade of mahogany and has developed a wonderful patina with a warm glow that perfectly accentuates the natural beauty found in the grain of the wood. The table is in very good condition with our only notes being minor surface wear & a rectangular discoloration on the top. There is a tiny bit of inlay loss on the right side bordering the oval inlay which we’ll have our restorer replace. The table measures 36” wide x 18” deep x 30 1/2” tall. When the top is flipped open the table measures 36” wide x 36” deep.
