Bay Colony Antiques is pleased to offer for sale this wonderful early 20th century antique Globe Wernicke 6 drawer oak file cabinet. The cabinet retains its original porcelain pulls and the paper record of transfers in the drawers. Those familiar with this form will know the drawers didn’t originally have backs, they were open and used in conjunction with an arched file system. The previous owner added makeshift backs to 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 6th drawers to make this a bit more practical to use now that arched file systems have become obsolete. The cabinet has frame and panel sides with an attractive Tiger Oak grain and a solid baseboard and top which leads us to believe this was always a standalone cabinet, not a section of an elastic cabinet. We really don’t encounter many of these, but regularly purchase GW barrister bookcases & index card file boxes. The cabinet is in fantastic condition with our only notes being minor surface wear & a small loss on the left side of the cabinet towards the bottom. The cabinet measures 27 1/2” wide x 12 1/4” deep (12 3/4” w/ pull) x 14” tall.
